Beloved, I am glad to share with you today the above theme taken from Luke 8:48, 50. Indeed, Jairus, this head of synagogue whose only daughter is dying, begs the Lord Jesus to come to his house. Because he does not have as much faith as the centurion (Luke 7: 18) who knew that a word of the Lord was sufficient for his servant to be healed, even from a distance. In the midst of those around her was a woman afflicted with a disease which no doctor could cure, though she had spent all her best to consult them. But the poor woman recognized in Jesus the one who had the power to heal her; she approached him from behind and touched the hem of his garment.
Instantly she was healed and Jesus said, “Who touched me?” But with healing, the Lord wants to give him the assurance of peace; so he obliges him to make himself known. And the woman, seeing that she was not hidden, came trembling, and throwing herself before him, declared before all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been instantly healed. And he said to her: “My daughter, your faith has saved you; go in peace. ”
Continuing his journey with the anguished father, he has “the tongue of those who are exercised” to support him with a word (Lk 7: 18; Isa 50: 4-7). And then an extraordinary scene takes place. call of the “Prince of life” (Acts 3:15), the young girl rises immediately. But the Lord Jesus knows that she now needs food, and in his tender care He sees that it is assured Thus in these two circumstances we see the love of the Lord manifesting itself again after deliverance: first towards the woman to establish her in a personal relationship with Him and bring her to bear public witness to Him; then towards this woman young girl to nourish and strengthen her.
The above verses are compiled for your edification and put together for your better understanding.
- Blessings are proportional to Faith:
Mt 8.13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment.
Mt 9.29-30 Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you”; 30 and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.”
Mt 17.20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Mc 9.23“ ‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”
- Immediate healing:
Mt 8.3 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.
Mt 20.34 Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.
Mk 1.31 So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.
Mk 5.29, 42 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished.
Mk 7.35 At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.
Jn 4.53 Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.
- Compassion of Christ:
- for the multitude:
Mt 9.36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Mt 14.14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
Mt 15.32 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.”
- for the unfortunate:
Mt 20.34 Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.
- for Jérusalem:
Mt 23.37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.
Mk 1.41 Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!”
- for those who are in mourning:
Luke 7:13 When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.”
Jn 11.35 Jesus wept.
- Health restoration:
Mt 9.25 After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up.
Mt 14.36 and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.
Mt 15.28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.
Lk 7.10 Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.
Lk 8.49, 50 While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.” 50 Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”
Jn 7.23 Now if a boy can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me for healing a man’s whole body on the Sabbath?
Ac 4.9-10 If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, 10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed.
Ac 9.34 “Aeneas,” Peter said to him, “Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and roll up your mat.” Immediately Aeneas got up.
- Faith is commanded: the reasons:
- ensures success:
2 Ch 20.20Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the LORD your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful.”
- a fundamental duty:
Jn 6.28-29Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” 29 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”
- a defensive weapon:
Ep 6.16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
- an indispensable element of Christian life:
He 11.6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
- essential in the field of prayer:
Jam 1.5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
- should be united in love:
1 John 3:23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.
- Divine encouragement:
Ex 14.13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.
Isa 41.13 For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.
Mt 9.2 Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”
Mt 14.27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
Mt 17.7 But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.”
Ac 23.11 The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.”
Ac 27.22 But now I urge you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost; only the ship will be destroyed.
Ultimately, the healing of the woman and the resurrection of Jairus ‘daughter also provide us with a picture of Jesus’ work for the people of Israel. He had come to bring back to life this people who had died for God; this is what will happen when the Lord takes care of him again. Until he does so at the time of his coming in glory, all who turn to him in faith are saved. This is what happened to this woman, to the disciples, and to all who believe in Jesus now; for all the resources of his grace remain at the disposal of faith, waiting for him to draw Israel out of the moral death in which he has found himself since he rejected Jesus, as he awakened the daughter of Jairus. Our prayers support you all in your efforts to act like what we have just seen.
PRAYER OF ACCEPTANCE OF JESUS CHRIST AS LORD AND PERSONAL SAVIOR
I now invite anyone who wants to become a new creation by walking in the truth, to pray with me as follows:
Lord Jesus, I have long walked in the lusts of the world ignoring your love for humans. I acknowledge that I have sinned against you and ask forgiveness for all my sins, because today I have decided to give you my life by taking you as my Lord and personal Savior. I acknowledge that you died on the cross of Calvary and that you rose from the dead for me.
I am now saved and born again by the power of the Holy Spirit. Lead me each day to eternal life you give to all who obey your Word. Reveal to me and strengthen my heart and my faith so that your light may shine in my life right now.
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for accepting me in your divine family so that I too can contemplate the wonders of your kingdom.
I will now choose a nearby waterpoint to baptize myself by immersion, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
To you all worship, power, and glory, now and forever and ever. Amen!
I would be glad to respond to your queries and comments if necessary, before sharing with you next week “on how to pray.”
May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you profusely.
